U.S. Safety Standard Update for Bassinets & Cradles (ASTM F2194-25)

Important U.S. Compliance Update for Bassinets & Cradles

On December 12, 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) approved a direct final rule updating 16 CFR Part 1218 for bassinets and cradles by incorporating the revised ASTM F2194-25 standard.

📅 Effective date: February 21, 2026

This update introduces:

  • New performance requirements
  • Revised testing methods
  • Updated definitions

The goal is clear:
➡️ to further reduce infant sleep-related risks by ensuring stable, flat, and secure sleeping environments.

Why this matters for manufacturers, importers, and private-label brands:
Products designed, tested, or certified to earlier versions of ASTM F2194 may no longer be sufficient once this rule takes effect. Design tolerances, stability performance, and test protocols should be reviewed now—well before February 2026.

If you’re supplying the U.S. market, this is a good moment to:

  • Re-check product specifications against ASTM F2194-25
  • Confirm labs are testing to the updated standard
  • Align documentation and compliance files with 16 CFR Part 1218 (revised)

Early alignment helps avoid last-minute redesigns, retesting delays, or import disruptions.
